Homemade Taco Seasoning

During my first Whole30, I quickly realized that I had never really looked at the ingredients in store bought taco seasoning.  I’m here to tell you, the ingredients are NOT healthy or Whole30 compliant.  Taco seasoning packets usually contain ingredients such as lactose (milk), maltodextrin, MSG and sugar just to name a few (yuck)!  So I was on a mission to find/create a substitute taco seasoning recipe without all the junk!  Here is my solution for a quick and easy DIY homemade taco seasoning, which my family prefers over the packet!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tsp. chili powder

  • 1/2 Tsp. cumin

  • 1/2 Tsp. oregano

  • 1/2 Tsp. garlic powder

  • 1/2 Tsp. onion powder

  • 1/2 Tsp. salt

  • juice from 1/2 a lemon (real lemon juice is best)

  • 8 oz. can of tomato sauce

Directions:

  1. Brown turkey or beef over medium heat until cooked through, then drain.

  2. In a small separate bowl mix together chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt.

  3. Combine drained meat, seasoning, the juice from 1/2 a lemon and tomato sauce together in a pan and simmer until combined.
