Disney’s Port Orleans: Will Run for Beignets Fun Run

During our last week-long Walt Disney World Resort vacation in July, I caught wind of a “Beignet Dash” Fun Run at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort.  I thought, running for beignets?!  Complete no-brainer…I was in!  I knew little of the details, only that registration started at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.  So I showed up at 7:00 a.m., which for the record, is completely unnecessary as they weren’t even done setting up the race and registration table.  But I’ve been burned before with being late to races, so now I err on the side of caution and always aim to arrive early.

Check-in was on the Riverwalk between Building 5 and Doubloon Lagoon Pool and begins at 7:30 a.m. with the run beginning at 8:00 a.m.  To reserve your spot ahead of time, you can call 407-WDW-PLAY or visit the Concierge Desk at the hotel.  However, I spoke to the nice cast members working the fun run and they indicated they never “sell-out” of the race, so your best bet is to just show up in the morning!

The cost was $15 and they accept cash and/or credit cards.  Your $15 includes a ticket/voucher on your race bib which can be brought inside after the race to cash in for beignets! They also have gluten free (and dairy free) beignets that this celiac LOVES! Your voucher is good for either one. Please note, the new beignets are in the shape of a mickey head and the gf/df versions are not (but it won’t even matter because they are basically doughy and sugary rectangles of deliciousness)!  You also get some fun run swag which includes: a race bib, Mardi Gras themed finisher medal,  a pin and a chance to take some pics at the end.

The run itself was around 1.5 mile (my Garmin said the distance was 1.42 miles to be exact) and takes place on the beautiful hotel grounds while running along side the Sassagoula River. If you are planning a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort, you may want to look into this for a quick fun run on a Sunday morning.  Definitely helps to stay active on vacation while indulging in all the goodies and treats that comes along with visiting the happiest place on earth!

While the beignet dash was the first fun run I had heard of Disney having, they have now added other fun runs to their line-up.  However, these runs do not last all year long – so make sure you call Guest Relations to confirm before you just show up!
