A LITTLE ABOUT ME…

Hi, my name is Lindsay and I’m a wife, a mother of two young boys, and a working mom who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 34. I vowed to do EVERYTHING in my power to make sure I beat cancer so that I would be around to raise my sons.  I’ve been poked, prodded, went through 15 months of chemotherapy, and had a double mastectomy and a total of 4 surgeries in all.  My doctors indicated that walking would increase my healing, so I started walking. Then I started running six weeks after my double mastectomy.  Suddenly, running wasn’t so scary once I faced cancer.

To say I was slow when I first started running would be an UNDERSTATEMENT.  Having chemo in your body while running is HARD STUFF.  Numerous surgeries and procedures forced me to stop running and it was like starting over each time I would start running again.

However, I REFUSED to give up no matter how many times I had to start over.  Around the time I was completing chemotherapy, I discovered I was celiac.  I am now gluten-free for life!  This website and all the information within detail my quest for ultimate health which includes: my breast cancer journey, Plant-Based nutrition, recipes, running & fitness, gluten-free living, and one of my favorite topics - Disney!

Hope to Inspire…

This video is a peek into my personal journey from breast cancer diagnosis to running. I am very grateful for having started running when I did because it made me feel alive at a time when I needed it the most!

YOU DON’T GET TO CHOOSE YOUR PASSION…YOUR PASSION CHOOSES YOU.

I would have never found my passion for a healthy living if it wasn’t for my cancer journey (life has a funny way of working itself out doesn’t it)?  I made a promise to myself while laying in bed sick from chemotherapy one day, that once I was able to - I would begin running, working out, and treating my body right. Of course, people thought I was crazy (and I don’t blame them). I was never a runner before cancer and never stuck to a workout regime consistently in my life. I’m happy that I made and kept that promise to myself though. Once I began running 6 weeks after my double mastectomy, it made me feel alive which is the complete opposite of how I felt while receiving cancer treatment.

I know what it's like to hit rock bottom health-wise. I know what it’s like to go through debilitating chemo and to experience side effects from cancer treatment that seem like they won’t ever quit. My goal in being so open in sharing my cancer journey on social media was to show others going through similar challenges that they aren’t alone.  Also, I find sharing what has worked for me health-wise really does help others. If I can go from a bed-ridden cancer patient to a runner (who has raced 8 half-marathons to date) there is nothing anyone else can’t do either!

Before my double mastectomy, I scoured Pinterest and the internet searching for blog posts on “How to prepare for a double mastectomy”.  I was thirsty for knowledge but could only find one blog post that was helpful (say what?!). What I wish I had is now what I have created to pay it forward for others who are going through similar challenges. If I can help one person feel they aren’t alone through their own health challenges or provide some inspiration towards their own health and wellness journey, then my passion is fulfilled - Lindsay
